Biography

Richard Doran is a shareholder in the firm. Richard’s practice focuses on state government regulation and civil litigation. He also advises clients on compliance with state level campaign, lobbying and ethics laws, on public records and open meetings laws and state procurement laws. He is counsel of record in over 200 reported appellate cases.
Richard joined the firm in 2003 after completion of his term as Florida’s 34th Attorney General. Prior to his appointment as Attorney General by Governor Jeb Bush, Richard served five years as Chief Deputy Attorney General for Attorney General Bob Butterworth. In that position he supervised the efforts of the nearly four hundred lawyers serving as Assistant Attorney Generals, managed the daily operation of the office and oversaw all major litigation such as the state’s antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft and many consumer fraud investigations including investigations of Ford Motor Company, Rite Aid, MCI, Firestone and BankOne. He also previously served as General Counsel of the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services and as managing attorney of the Florida Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division and Civil Litigation Division.

From 1995 through 1997, he served as General Counsel of the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. From 1990 through 1995, he served as managing attorney of the Florida Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division and Civil Litigation Division.

Doran’s practice focuses on state government regulation and civil litigation. He also advises clients on compliance with state level campaign, lobbying and gift laws, on public records and open meetings laws and state procurement laws. Admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, all Federal District Courts of Florida and the Florida Supreme Court; he is counsel of record in over 200 reported appellate cases.
